He had set the stipend for the first Muhajirun at four thousand, distributed in four installments, and he set Ibn Umar's stipend at three thousand five hundred. It was said to him, "He is one of the Muhajirun, so why have you given him less than four thousand?"He replied, "His parents took him along when they emigrated," meaning he is not like one who emigrated on his own.
He also reported it from Ibrahim Farra, from Hisham, from Ibn Jurayj, from Ubaydullah, from Nafi, that Umar allotted four thousand to the early migrants (the first Muhajirin). This is a mursal report.
Hafiz said in Fath, this in its apparent form is disconnected, because Nafi did not meet Umar, but the wording of the hadith suggests that Nafi received it from Ibn Umar. In a narration other than that of Abu Dharr here, it occurs "from Nafi," meaning "from Ibn Umar," and this may be a correction made by some narrators. Our shaykh Ibn Mulaqqin took note of this and objected to Ibn Tin's statement that the hadith is mursal, saying, "Perhaps the copy that reached him did not contain 'Ibn Umar.'"Darawardi narrated from Ubaydullah bin Umar, saying, "from Nafi, from Ibn Umar," who said, "Umar allotted Usamah more than he allotted me." He then mentioned another story similar to this one, which Abu Naeem extracted in Mustakhraj. End of quote.
I say, the hadith as narrated by Bukhari is mursal, as Daraqutni, may Allah have mercy on him, states. As for the connected chain found in Abu Naeem, it comes through the narration of Abdul-Aziz bin Muhammad bin Ubayd Darawardi from Ubaydullah bin Umar Umari, as mentioned in Fath al-Bari. Hafiz says in Taqreeb, "Truthful, but he used to narrate from the books of others and would err in doing so." Nasai said, "His narration from Ubaydullah Umari is munkar." End of quote.
