Bukhari 3726

Bukhari reported it from Makki bin Ibrahim, from Hashim, from Amir bin Saad, from Saad, "Indeed, I have seen myself as a third of Islam." He said, Ibn Abu Zaida, Yahya Al-Umawi, and Abu Usama differed from him, narrating it from Hashim, from Ibn Musayab, from Saad.

The Hafiz, may Allah have mercy on him, said in the introduction, after citing the words of Daraqutni, "I say, Bukhari included the hadith of Ibn Abu Zaida following the hadith of Makki, and he cited the hadith of Abu Usama with a suspended chain. As for the route through Umawi, Ismaili included it. It appears that Bukhari included it based on likelihood and contextual indication."

What appears clear to me, and Allah knows best, is that the narration of Hashim from Saeed should be given preference, because those who transmitted it are greater in number. They are Yahya bin Abu Zaida, who is thiqah and precise as stated in Taqrib, Hammad bin Usama, who is thiqah and firm, though he may have practiced tadlis and toward the end of his life used to narrate from the books of others, and Yahya bin Saeed Umawi.So these three should be given preference over Makki bin Ibrahim, who is thiqah and firm as stated in Taqrib.
