"Which of you remembers the words of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ concerning tribulation?"Hudhayfah said, "I remember them just as he said them."Umar said, "Go ahead, you are bold indeed."Hudhayfah said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A man's trial is in his family, his property, and his neighbor, and it is expiated by prayer, charity, enjoining good, and forbidding evil."Umar said, "It is not this one I mean, but the one that surges like the waves of the sea."Hudhayfah said, "Commander of the Believers, you have nothing to fear from it, for between you and it stands a locked door."Umar asked, "Will the door be opened or broken?"Hudhayfah replied, "No, it will be broken."Umar said, "Then it is more likely never to be closed again."We asked Hudhayfah, "Did Umar know who the door was?"He answered, "Yes, as surely as he knew that tomorrow comes after tonight. I told him a hadith that was no idle tale."We were too in awe of him to ask directly, so we instructed Masruq to ask him. Masruq asked, "Who is the door?"He replied, "Umar."

أيكم يحفظ قول رسول الله ﷺ في الفتنة فقال حذيفة أنا أحفظ كما قال قال هات إنك لجريء قال رسول الله ﷺ فتنة الرجل في أهله وماله وجاره تكفرها الصلاة والصدقة والأمر بالمعروف والنهي عن المنكر قال ليست هذه ولكن التي تموج كموج البحر قال يا أمير المؤمنين لا بأس عليك منها إن بينك وبينها بابا مغلقا قال يفتح الباب أو يكسر قال لا بل يكسر قال ذاك أحرى أن لا يغلق قلنا علم عمر الباب قال نعم كما أن دون غد الليلة إني حدثته حديثا ليس بالأغاليط فهبنا أن نسأله وأمرنا مسروقا فسأله فقال من الباب قال عمر
