They were traveling with the Prophet ﷺ and journeyed through the night until, as dawn approached, they stopped to rest. Sleep overcame them until the sun had risen high. The first to wake was Abu Bakr, but he never woke the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from his sleep, allowing him to wake on his own. Then Umar woke, so Abu Bakr sat at the Prophet's head and began saying takbir loudly until the Prophet ﷺ woke. He then dismounted and led us in the morning prayer.One man kept apart from the group and did not pray with us. When the prayer ended, the Prophet ﷺ said, "So-and-so, what kept you from praying with us?"The man replied, "I am in a state of major ritual impurity."The Prophet ﷺ instructed him to perform tayammum with clean earth, and then he prayed.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then placed me among a group of riders ahead of him. We had grown severely thirsty. As we were riding, we suddenly came upon a woman with her legs dangling between two waterskins.We asked her, "Where is the water?"She said, "There is no water."We asked, "How far is it between your family and the water?"She replied, "A day and a night."We said, "Come along to the Messenger of Allah."She asked, "And what is the Messenger of Allah?"We gave her no choice in the matter and brought her to the Prophet ﷺ. She told him the same as she had told us, except that she added that she was a widow with orphaned children. He ordered her two waterskins to be brought, then he wiped over their lower openings. We drank, forty thirsty men, until our thirst was quenched. We filled every waterskin and vessel we had, though we did not water any camel. The skins were nearly bursting from how full they were.Then he said, "Bring whatever you have." Pieces of bread and dates were gathered for her, and she returned to her family.She said, "I have met the greatest sorcerer of all people, or he is a prophet as they claim."Through that woman, Allah guided that settlement, and she accepted Islam, and they all accepted Islam.
حدثنا أبو الوليد حدثنا سلم بن زرير سمعت أبا رجاء قال حدثنا
أنهم كانوا مع النبي ﷺ في مسير فأدلجوا ليلتهم حتى إذا كان وجه الصبح عرسوا فغلبتهم أعينهم حتى ارتفعت الشمس فكان أول من استيقظ من منامه أبو بكر وكان لا يوقظ رسول الله ﷺ من منامه حتى يستيقظ فاستيقظ عمر فقعد أبو بكر عند رأسه فجعل يكبر ويرفع صوته حتى استيقظ النبي ﷺ فنزل وصلى بنا الغداة فاعتزل رجل من القوم لم يصل معنا فلما انصرف قال يا فلان ما يمنعك أن تصلي معنا قال أصابتني جنابة فأمره أن يتيمم بالصعيد ثم صلى وجعلني رسول الله ﷺ في ركوب بين يديه وقد عطشنا عطشا شديدا فبينما نحن نسير إذا نحن بامرأة سادلة رجليها بين مزادتين فقلنا لها أين الماء فقالت إنه لا ماء فقلنا كم بين أهلك وبين الماء قالت يوم وليلة فقلنا انطلقي إلى رسول الله ﷺ قالت وما رسول الله فلم نملكها من أمرها حتى استقبلنا بها النبي ﷺ فحدثته بمثل الذي حدثتنا غير أنها حدثته أنها مؤتمة فأمر بمزادتيها فمسح في العزلاوين فشربنا عطاشا أربعين رجلا حتى روينا فملأنا كل قربة معنا وإداوة غير أنه لم نسق بعيرا وهي تكاد تنض من الملء ثم قال هاتوا ما عندكم فجمع لها من الكسر والتمر حتى أتت أهلها قالت لقيت أسحر الناس أو هو نبي كما زعموا فهدى الله ذاك الصرم بتلك المرأة فأسلمت وأسلموا
