It is as though I can still see the Prophet ﷺ recounting the story of one of the prophets whose people struck him until they made him bleed. As he wiped the blood from his face, he said, "O Allah, forgive my people, for they do not know."
حدثنا عمر بن حفص حدثنا أبي حدثنا الأعمش قال حدثني شقيق قال
كأني أنظر إلى النبي ﷺ يحكي نبيا من الأنبياء ضربه قومه فأدموه وهو يمسح الدم عن وجهه ويقول اللهم اغفر لقومي فإنهم لا يعلمون
