He heard Muawiya bin Abu Sufyan, during the year he performed the pilgrimage, while on the pulpit. Muawiya took hold of a tuft of hair that was in the hand of one of his guards and said, "People of Medina, where are your scholars? I heard the Prophet ﷺ forbid the like of this and say, 'The Children of Israil were destroyed only when their women began to use such things.'"
