News of the Messenger of Allah's ﷺ arrival in Medina reached Abdullah bin Salam, so he came to him and said, "I am going to ask you about three things which no one knows except a prophet. What is the first sign of the Hour? What is the first food that the people of Paradise will eat? And what causes a child to resemble his father, or to resemble his maternal uncles?"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "Jibreel just informed me of these matters."Abdullah said, "That is the angel who is the enemy of the Jews."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "As for the first sign of the Hour, it is a fire that will gather the people from the east to the west. As for the first food the people of Paradise will eat, it is the extra lobe of the fish's liver. As for the resemblance of a child, when a man has relations with his wife and his fluid precedes hers, the child resembles him, and when her fluid precedes his, the child resembles her."Abdullah said, "I bear witness that you are the Messenger of Allah." Then he said, "Messenger of Allah, the Jews are a people of slander. If they learn of my conversion to Islam before you question them, they will slander me in your presence."The Jews then arrived, and Abdullah went inside the house. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked them, "What kind of man among you is Abdullah bin Salam?"They replied, "He is the most learned among us and the son of the most learned among us, the best among us and the son of the best among us."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "What would you say if Abdullah were to embrace Islam?"They said, "May Allah protect him from that."Then Abdullah came out to them and said, "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah."They said, "He is the worst among us and the son of the worst among us," and they began to disparage him.
حدثنا محمد بن سلام أخبرنا الفزاري عن حميد
بلغ عبد الله بن سلام مقدم رسول الله ﷺ المدينة فأتاه فقال إني سائلك عن ثلاث لا يعلمهن إلا نبي قال ما أول أشراط الساعة وما أول طعام يأكله أهل الجنة ومن أي شيء ينزع الولد إلى أبيه ومن أي شيء ينزع إلى أخواله فقال رسول الله ﷺ خبرني بهن آنفا جبريل قال فقال عبد الله ذاك عدو اليهود من الملائكة فقال رسول الله ﷺ أما أول أشراط الساعة فنار تحشر الناس من المشرق إلى المغرب وأما أول طعام يأكله أهل الجنة فزيادة كبد حوت وأما الشبه في الولد فإن الرجل إذا غشي المرأة فسبقها ماؤه كان الشبه له وإذا سبق ماؤها كان الشبه لها قال أشهد أنك رسول الله ثم قال يا رسول الله إن اليهود قوم بهت إن علموا بإسلامي قبل أن تسألهم بهتوني عندك فجاءت اليهود ودخل عبد الله البيت فقال رسول الله ﷺ أي رجل فيكم عبد الله بن سلام قالوا أعلمنا وابن أعلمنا وأخبرنا وابن أخيرنا فقال رسول الله ﷺ أفرأيتم إن أسلم عبد الله قالوا أعاذه الله من ذلك فخرج عبد الله إليهم فقال أشهد أن لا إله إلا الله وأشهد أن محمدا رسول الله فقالوا شرنا وابن شرنا ووقعوا فيه
