Umar asked permission to enter upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while some women of Quraysh were with him, speaking to him and pressing him with their requests, their voices raised above his. When Umar sought permission to enter, the women hurried to get behind the curtain. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave him permission, and he was laughing.Umar said, "May Allah keep you smiling, Messenger of Allah. What has made you laugh?"He replied, "I am amazed at these women who were with me. The moment they heard your voice, they rushed for the curtain."Umar said, "Messenger of Allah, you are the one more deserving of their awe."Then he turned to the women and said, "Enemies of your own souls, do you fear me and not fear the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?"They answered, "Yes. You are harsher and sterner than the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "By the One in whose hand my soul is, never has Satan met you walking down a path without taking a different path from yours."
