The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent Abu Ubayda bin al-Jarrah to Bahrain to bring its tribute. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had himself made a peace agreement with the people of Bahrain and appointed Ala bin Hadrami over them. Abu Ubayda came back with wealth from Bahrain, and the Ansar heard of his arrival. They attended the dawn prayer with the Prophet ﷺ, and when he had finished leading them in the Fajr prayer, he turned to leave. They positioned themselves in his path, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ smiled when he saw them.He said, "I think you have heard that Abu Ubayda has come back with something."They replied, "Yes indeed, Messenger of Allah."He said, "Then receive good news and hope for what will please you. By Allah, it is not poverty that I fear for you. What I fear for you is that the world will be spread out before you as it was spread out before those who came before you, and that you will compete for it as they competed for it, and that it will destroy you as it destroyed them."
حدثنا أبو اليمان أخبرنا شعيب عن الزهري قال حدثني عروة بن الزبير عن المسور بن مخرمة أنه أخبره أن
أن رسول الله ﷺ بعث أبا عبيدة بن الجراح إلى البحرين يأتي بجزيتها وكان رسول الله ﷺ هو صالح أهل البحرين وأمر عليهم العلاء بن الحضرمي فقدم أبو عبيدة بمال من البحرين فسمعت الأنصار بقدوم أبي عبيدة فوافت صلاة الصبح مع النبي ﷺ فلما صلى بهم الفجر انصرف فتعرضوا له فتبسم رسول الله ﷺ حين رآهم وقال أظنكم قد سمعتم أن أبا عبيدة قد جاء بشيء قالوا أجل يا رسول الله قال فأبشروا وأملوا ما يسركم فوالله لا الفقر أخشى عليكم ولكن أخشى عليكم أن تبسط عليكم الدنيا كما بسطت على من كان قبلكم فتنافسوها كما تنافسوها وتهلككم كما أهلكتهم
