Famine struck us during the nights of Khaybar. On the day of Khaybar, we came across some domestic donkeys, so we slaughtered them. When the pots were boiling, the announcer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called out, "Overturn the pots and do not eat anything from the meat of the donkeys."Abdullah said, "We thought the Prophet ﷺ forbade it only because the fifth share had not been taken from it." Others said, "He prohibited it absolutely."I asked Saeed bin Jubayr, and he said, "He prohibited it absolutely."

أصابتنا مجاعة ليالي خيبر فلما كان يوم خيبر وقعنا في الحمر الأهلية فانتحرناها فلما غلت القدور نادى منادي رسول الله ﷺ أكفئوا القدور فلا تطعموا من لحوم الحمر شيئا قال عبد الله فقلنا إنما نهى النبي ﷺ لأنها لم تخمس قال وقال آخرون حرمها ألبتة وسألت سعيد بن جبير فقال حرمها ألبتة
