Ali bin Husayn reported,

He related to him that when they arrived in Medina from Yazid bin Muawiya following the killing of Husayn bin Ali, may Allah have mercy upon him, Miswar bin Makhrama met him and said, "Do you have any need that I can attend to for you?"I said to him, "No."He said, "Will you give me the sword of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ? For I fear that these people may overpower you and take it from you. By Allah, if you give it to me, no one shall ever reach it until I lose my life. Ali bin Abu Talib once proposed to marry the daughter of Abu Jahl, alongside Fatimah, peace be upon her. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ addressing the people about this matter from this very pulpit of his, and I had reached puberty at that time. He said, 'Fatimah is part of me, and I fear that she may be tested in her religion.' Then he mentioned a son-in-law of his from the clan of Abd Shams, and praised him with regard to his conduct as a son-in-law, saying, 'He spoke to me and was truthful with me, and he made me a promise and fulfilled it. I do not forbid what is lawful nor permit what is unlawful, but by Allah, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the daughter of the enemy of Allah shall never be joined together.'"
