The Prophet ﷺ said, "Who will deal with Kaab bin al-Ashraf? He has harmed Allah and His Messenger."Muhammad bin Maslama said, "Would you like me to kill him, Messenger of Allah?"He replied, "Yes."So Muhammad bin Maslama went to him and said, "This man," meaning the Prophet ﷺ, "has caused us hardship and asked us for charity."Kaab said, "By Allah, you will grow even more weary of him."Muhammad replied, "We have followed him, and we are reluctant to leave him until we see how his affair turns out."He kept speaking with him until he gained the chance to overpower him, and then he killed him.
حدثنا قتيبة بن سعيد حدثنا سفيان عن عمرو بن دينار
أن النبي ﷺ قال من لكعب بن الأشرف فإنه قد آذى الله ورسوله قال محمد بن مسلمة أتحب أن أقتله يا رسول الله قال نعم قال فأتاه فقال إن هذا يعني النبي ﷺ قد عنانا وسألنا الصدقة قال وأيضا والله لتملنه قال فإنا قد اتبعناه فنكره أن ندعه حتى ننظر إلى ما يصير أمره قال فلم يزل يكلمه حتى استمكن منه فقتله
