I went on a military expedition with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ caught up with me while I was on a water-carrying camel of ours that had become exhausted and could barely move.He asked me, "What is wrong with your camel?"I replied, "It is worn out."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then went to the back, scolded the camel, and prayed for it. From that moment on, it kept moving at the front of the caravan, ahead of all the other camels.He asked me, "How do you find your camel now?"I said, "It is doing well. Your blessing has reached it."He said, "Will you sell it to me?"I felt embarrassed, since we had no other water-carrying camel besides this one, but I said, "Yes."He said, "Then sell it to me."So I sold it to him on the condition that I could ride it back to Medina. Then I said, "Messenger of Allah, I am newly married," and I asked his permission to go ahead. He granted me permission, so I went ahead of the people toward Medina.When I reached Medina, my maternal uncle met me and asked about the camel. I told him what I had done with it, and he reproached me.When I had asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for permission to go ahead, he had asked me, "Have you married a virgin or a previously married woman?"I said, "I married a previously married woman."He said, "Why did you not marry a virgin, so you could play with her and she with you?"I said, "Messenger of Allah, my father has died," or "was martyred, and I have young sisters. I disliked the idea of marrying someone like them who would not discipline them or look after them. So I married a previously married woman to look after them and discipline them."When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived in Medina, I went to him in the morning with the camel. He gave me its price and returned the camel to me as well.Mughira said, "In our judgment, this is a good practice and we see no harm in it."
حدثنا إسحاق بن إبراهيم أخبرنا جرير عن المغيرة عن الشعبي
غزوت مع رسول الله ﷺ قال فتلاحق بي النبي ﷺ وأنا على ناضح لنا قد أعيا فلا يكاد يسير فقال لي ما لبعيرك قال قلت عيي قال فتخلف رسول الله ﷺ فزجره ودعا له فما زال بين يدي الإبل قدامها يسير فقال لي كيف ترى بعيرك قال قلت بخير قد أصابته بركتك قال أفتبيعنيه قال فاستحييت ولم يكن لنا ناضح غيره قال فقلت نعم قال فبعنيه فبعته إياه على أن لي فقار ظهره حتى أبلغ المدينة قال فقلت يا رسول الله إني عروس فاستأذنته فأذن لي فتقدمت الناس إلى المدينة حتى أتيت المدينة فلقيني خالي فسألني عن البعير فأخبرته بما صنعت فيه فلامني قال وقد كان رسول الله ﷺ قال لي حين استأذنته هل تزوجت بكرا أم ثيبا فقلت تزوجت ثيبا فقال هلا تزوجت بكرا تلاعبها وتلاعبك قلت يا رسول الله توفي والدي أو استشهد ولي أخوات صغار فكرهت أن أتزوج مثلهن فلا تؤدبهن ولا تقوم عليهن فتزوجت ثيبا لتقوم عليهن وتؤدبهن قال فلما قدم رسول الله ﷺ المدينة غدوت عليه بالبعير فأعطاني ثمنه ورده علي قال المغيرة هذا في قضائنا حسن لا نرى به بأسا
