He mentioned the Day of Yamamah and said, Anas came to Thabit bin Qays, who had bared his thighs and was applying embalming perfume to himself.Anas said, "Uncle, what is keeping you from coming forward?"He replied, "In a moment, my nephew," and continued applying the perfume to himself, meaning the embalming scent. Then he came and sat down.He mentioned in the hadith that the people had broken ranks, so Thabit said, "Move aside from before our faces so we may engage the enemy. This is not how we used to fight alongside the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. What an evil habit you have taught your opponents."Hammad narrated it from Thabit from Anas.
حدثنا عبد الله بن عبد الوهاب حدثنا خالد بن الحارث حدثنا ابن عون
وذكر يوم اليمامة قال أتى أنس ثابت بن قيس وقد حسر عن فخذيه وهو يتحنط فقال يا عم ما يحبسك أن لا تجيء قال الآن يا ابن أخي وجعل يتحنط يعني من الحنوط ثم جاء فجلس فذكر في الحديث انكشافا من الناس فقال هكذا عن وجوهنا حتى نضارب القوم ما هكذا كنا نفعل مع رسول الله ﷺ بئس ما عودتم أقرانكم رواه حماد عن ثابت عن أنس
