When Uthman, may Allah be pleased with him, was besieged, he looked down upon them and said, "I adjure you, and I adjure none but the companions of the Prophet ﷺ, do you not know that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Whoever digs the well of Rumah will have Paradise'? So I dug it. Do you not know that he said, 'Whoever equips the army of hardship will have Paradise'? So I equipped them."They confirmed what he said.Umar said regarding his endowment that there is no blame upon the one who manages it to eat from it. The one who manages it may be the endower himself or someone else, and this allowance applies to all.
Muslim narrated two hadiths from his father, from Shubah, from Abu Ishaq, from Abu Abdul-Rahman, that Uthman looked out over them.
Al-Hafiz said in Fath al-Bari, His saying, "And Abdan said," is thus in all the copies. Abu Naeem said, "He mentioned it from Abdan without a connected transmission." Daraqutni and Ismaili and others have transmitted it as a connected chain through the route of Qasim bin Muhammad Marwazi from Abdan in full, and the Abu Ishaq mentioned in its isnad is Subayi, and Abu Abdul-Rahman is Sulami.Daraqutni said, "Uthman, the father of Abdan, was the sole transmitter of this hadith from Shuba." There is disagreement over it regarding Abu Ishaq. Zayd bin Abu Unaysa narrated it from him in the same manner as this narration, and Tirmidhi and Nasai transmitted it. Isa bin Yunus narrated it from his father, from Abu Ishaq, from Abu Salama, from Uthman, and Nasai also transmitted it, and Abu Qatan followed him from Yunus, and Ahmad transmitted it.I say, the fact that Uthman, the father of Abdan, was the sole transmitter does not harm it, for he is reliable. The agreement of Shuba and Zayd bin Abu Unaysa on transmitting it this way carries more weight than Yunus's being the sole transmitter from Abu Ishaq, except that the members of a man's own household know him better than others, so the preference becomes contested. Perhaps Abu Ishaq had two chains for it. End of quote.
