He was traveling on a camel of his that had grown exhausted. The Prophet ﷺ passed by and struck it, then prayed for it, and it began to travel at a pace unlike any other.Then the Prophet ﷺ said, "Sell it to me for an ounce of silver."Jabir said, "No."Then he said again, "Sell it to me for an ounce."So I sold it to him, but stipulated that I would ride it home to my family. When we arrived, I brought him the camel and he paid me its price. Then I left, but he sent someone after me, saying, "I would not take your camel from you. Take your camel back, it is yours."Shuba narrated from Mughira from Amir from Jabir, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ lent me its back to ride to Medina."Ishaq narrated from Jareer from Mughira, "I sold it on the condition that I would have the use of its back until I reached Medina."Ata and others said, "Its back is yours until Medina."Muhammad bin Munkadir narrated from Jabir that he stipulated its back until Medina.Zayd bin Aslam narrated from Jabir, "Its back is yours until you return."Abu Zubayr narrated from Jabir, "We have lent you its back to ride to Medina."Amash narrated from Salim from Jabir, "Ride it to your family."Ubaydullah and Ibn Ishaq narrated from Wahb from Jabir that the Prophet ﷺ bought it for an ounce. Zayd bin Aslam corroborated this from Jabir.Ibn Jurayj narrated from Ata and others from Jabir, "I took it for four dinars," and this would equal an ounce, calculating each dinar at ten dirhams.Mughira from Shaybi from Jabir, and Ibn Munkadir and Abu Zubayr from Jabir, did not specify the price.Amash narrated from Salim from Jabir, "An ounce of gold."Abu Ishaq narrated from Salim from Jabir, "For two hundred dirhams."Dawud bin Qays narrated from Ubaydullah bin Miqsam from Jabir that he bought it on the way to Tabuk, and I think he said, "For four ounces."Abu Nadra narrated from Jabir that he bought it for twenty dinars.The wording of Shaybi, "for an ounce," is the most common, and the stipulation is more frequent and, in my view, more authentic. Abu Abdullah said this.
حدثنا أبو نعيم حدثنا زكرياء قال سمعت عامرا يقول حدثني
أنه كان يسير على جمل له قد أعيا فمر النبي ﷺ فضربه فدعا له فسار بسير ليس يسير مثله ثم قال بعنيه بوقية قلت لا ثم قال بعنيه بوقية فبعته فاستثنيت حملانه إلى أهلي فلما قدمنا أتيته بالجمل ونقدني ثمنه ثم انصرفت فأرسل على إثري قال ما كنت لآخذ جملك فخذ جملك ذلك فهو مالك قال شعبة عن مغيرة عن عامر عن جابر أفقرني رسول الله ﷺ ظهره إلى المدينة وقال إسحاق عن جرير عن مغيرة فبعته على أن لي فقار ظهره حتى أبلغ المدينة وقال عطاء وغيره لك ظهره إلى المدينة وقال محمد بن المنكدر عن جابر شرط ظهره إلى المدينة وقال زيد بن أسلم عن جابر ولك ظهره حتى ترجع وقال أبو الزبير عن جابر أفقرناك ظهره إلى المدينة وقال الأعمش عن سالم عن جابر تبلغ عليه إلى أهلك وقال عبيد الله وابن إسحاق عن وهب عن جابر اشتراه النبي ﷺ بوقية وتابعه زيد بن أسلم عن جابر وقال ابن جريج عن عطاء وغيره عن جابر أخذته بأربعة دنانير وهذا يكون وقية على حساب الدينار بعشرة دراهم ولم يبين الثمن مغيرة عن الشعبي عن جابر وابن المنكدر وأبو الزبير عن جابر وقال الأعمش عن سالم عن جابر وقية ذهب وقال أبو إسحاق عن سالم عن جابر بمائتي درهم وقال داود بن قيس عن عبيد الله بن مقسم عن جابر اشتراه بطريق تبوك أحسبه قال بأربع أواق وقال أبو نضرة عن جابر اشتراه بعشرين دينارا وقول الشعبي بوقية أكثر الاشتراط أكثر وأصح عندي قاله أبو عبد الله
