The wives of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ were divided into two groups. One group included Ayesha, Hafsa, Safiyya, and Sawda, and the other group included Umm Salama and the rest of the wives of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.The Muslims knew of the Messenger of Allah's ﷺ love for Ayesha, so whenever any of them had a gift he wished to present to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he would delay sending it until the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was at Ayesha's house, then the giver would send the gift to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ there.The group of Umm Salama spoke with her and said, "Speak to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ so he may tell the people, 'Whoever wishes to present a gift to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, let him present it to him in whichever of his wives' houses he happens to be.'"So Umm Salama spoke to him about what they had said, but he did not respond to her. They asked her what he had said, and she replied, "He said nothing to me."They said to her, "Then speak to him again."She said, "I spoke to him again when it was my turn, but he said nothing to me."They asked her, and she replied, "He said nothing to me."They said to her, "Keep speaking to him until he answers you."So when his turn with her came again, she spoke to him, and he said to her, "Do not harm me regarding Ayesha, for revelation has never come to me while I was beneath the garment of any woman except Ayesha."She replied, "I repent to Allah from causing you any harm, Messenger of Allah."Then they called upon Fatimah, daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and she sent word to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "Your wives implore you by Allah to be just regarding Bint Abu Bakr."She spoke to him, and he said, "Dear daughter, do you not love what I love?"She said, "Yes."So she returned to them and informed them.They said, "Go back to him."She refused to return, so they sent Zaynab bint Jahsh. She came to him and was harsh, saying, "Your wives implore you by Allah to be just regarding the daughter of Ibn Abu Quhafa."She raised her voice until she addressed Ayesha, who was sitting there, and reviled her, while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ kept looking at Ayesha to see whether she would respond.Ayesha then spoke up, answering Zaynab back until she silenced her. The Prophet ﷺ looked at Ayesha and said, "She is indeed the daughter of Abu Bakr."Bukhari said, The latter portion, the story of Fatimah, is reported from Hisham bin Urwa, from a man, from Zuhri, from Muhammad bin Abdul-Rahman.Abu Marwan reported from Hisham, from Urwa, "The people used to seek out Ayesha's day for presenting their gifts."And from Hisham, from a man of Quraysh and a man from the freed clients, from Zuhri, from Muhammad bin Abdul-Rahman bin Harith bin Hisham, Ayesha said, "I was with the Prophet ﷺ when Fatimah asked permission to enter."
حدثنا إسماعيل قال حدثني أخي عن سليمان عن هشام بن عروة عن أبيه
أن نساء رسول الله ﷺ كن حزبين فحزب فيه عائشة وحفصة وصفية وسودة والحزب الآخر أم سلمة وسائر نساء رسول الله ﷺ وكان المسلمون قد علموا حب رسول الله ﷺ عائشة فإذا كانت عند أحدهم هدية يريد أن يهديها إلى رسول الله ﷺ أخرها حتى إذا كان رسول الله ﷺ في بيت عائشة بعث صاحب الهدية بها إلى رسول الله ﷺ في بيت عائشة فكلم حزب أم سلمة فقلن لها كلمي رسول الله ﷺ يكلم الناس فيقول من أراد أن يهدي إلى رسول الله ﷺ هدية فليهده إليه حيث كان من بيوت نسائه فكلمته أم سلمة بما قلن فلم يقل لها شيئا فسألنها فقالت ما قال لي شيئا فقلن لها فكلميه قالت فكلمته حين دار إليها أيضا فلم يقل لها شيئا فسألنها فقالت ما قال لي شيئا فقلن لها كلميه حتى يكلمك فدار إليها فكلمته فقال لها لا تؤذيني في عائشة فإن الوحي لم يأتني وأنا في ثوب امرأة إلا عائشة قالت فقالت أتوب إلى الله من أذاك يا رسول الله ثم إنهن دعون فاطمة بنت رسول الله ﷺ فأرسلت إلى رسول الله ﷺ تقول إن نساءك ينشدنك الله العدل في بنت أبي بكر فكلمته فقال يا بنية ألا تحبين ما أحب قالت بلى فرجعت إليهن فأخبرتهن فقلن ارجعي إليه فأبت أن ترجع فأرسلن زينب بنت جحش فأتته فأغلظت وقالت إن نساءك ينشدنك الله العدل في بنت ابن أبي قحافة فرفعت صوتها حتى تناولت عائشة وهي قاعدة فسبتها حتى إن رسول الله ﷺ لينظر إلى عائشة هل تكلم قال فتكلمت عائشة ترد على زينب حتى أسكتتها قالت فنظر النبي ﷺ إلى عائشة وقال إنها بنت أبي بكر قال البخاري الكلام الأخير قصة فاطمة يذكر عن هشام بن عروة عن رجل عن الزهري عن محمد بن عبد الرحمن وقال أبو مروان عن هشام عن عروة كان الناس يتحرون بهداياهم يوم عائشة وعن هشام عن رجل من قريش ورجل من الموالي عن الزهري عن محمد بن عبد الرحمن بن الحارث بن هشام قالت عائشة كنت عند النبي ﷺ فاستأذنت فاطمة
