Ayesha reported,

She wanted to buy Barirah, but the sellers stipulated that the right of guardianship would remain with them. This was mentioned to the Prophet ﷺ, who said, "Buy her and free her, for the right of guardianship belongs only to the one who frees the slave."Some meat was given to her as a gift. It was said to the Prophet ﷺ, "This was given to Barirah as charity."The Prophet ﷺ said, "It is charity for her, but a gift for us."She was also given the choice regarding her marriage.Abdul-Rahman said, "Her husband was either a free man or a slave."Shuba said, I asked Abdul-Rahman about her husband, and he said, "I do not know whether he was free or a slave."
