He presented a wild donkey as a gift to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was at al-Abwa or Waddan, but the Prophet returned it to him. When the Prophet saw the disappointment on his face, he said, "We only returned it to you because we are in the state of ihram."
حدثنا إسماعيل قال حدثني مالك عن ابن شهاب عن عبيد الله بن عبد الله بن عتبة بن مسعود عن عبد الله بن عباس
أنه أهدى لرسول الله ﷺ حمارا وحشيا وهو بالأبواء أو بودان فرد عليه فلما رأى ما في وجهه قال أما إنا لم نرده عليك إلا أنا حرم
