The Prophet ﷺ and his companions arrived on the morning of the fourth of Dhul-Hijjah, having entered ihram for Hajj alone, with nothing else mixed into it. When we arrived, he ordered us to convert it into umrah and to be free to be intimate with our wives. People began to talk about this.Ata said that Jabir said, "One of us would go off to Mina with semen still dripping from his private parts," and Jabir gestured with his hand.Word of this reached the Prophet ﷺ, so he stood and addressed the people, saying, "I have heard that some people are saying such and such. By Allah, I am more righteous and more fearful of Allah than they are. Had I known earlier what I now know, I would not have brought the sacrificial animals, and were it not that I have the sacrificial animals with me, I would have come out of ihram."Suraqa bin Malik bin Jushum stood up and asked, "Messenger of Allah, is this just for us, or is it forever?"He replied, "No, it is forever."Then Ali bin Abu Talib arrived. One of them said that Ali declared, "At Your service, with the same intention as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ," while the other reported that he said, "At Your service, with the Hajj of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." So the Prophet ﷺ commanded him to remain in his state of ihram and made him a partner in the sacrificial offering.
حدثنا أبو النعمان حدثنا حماد بن زيد أخبرنا عبد الملك بن جريج عن عطاء عن جابر وعن طاوس
قدم النبي ﷺ وأصحابه صبح رابعة من ذي الحجة مهلين بالحج لا يخلطهم شيء فلما قدمنا أمرنا فجعلناها عمرة وأن نحل إلى نسائنا ففشت في ذلك القالة قال عطاء فقال جابر فيروح أحدنا إلى منى وذكره يقطر منيا فقال جابر بكفه فبلغ ذلك النبي ﷺ فقام خطيبا فقال بلغني أن أقواما يقولون كذا وكذا والله لأنا أبر وأتقى لله منهم ولو أني استقبلت من أمري ما استدبرت ما أهديت ولولا أن معي الهدي لأحللت فقام سراقة بن مالك بن جعشم فقال يا رسول الله هي لنا أو للأبد فقال لا بل للأبد قال وجاء علي بن أبي طالب فقال أحدهما يقول لبيك بما أهل به رسول الله ﷺ وقال وقال الآخر لبيك بحجة رسول الله ﷺ فأمر النبي ﷺ أن يقيم على إحرامه وأشركه في الهدي
