The Messenger of Allah ﷺ mentioned a man from the Children of Israil and recounted the story. He went out to see whether perhaps a ship had arrived bearing his money, and instead he came upon the wooden plank. He took it home as firewood for his family, but when he sawed it open, he found the money and the letter inside.
وقال الليث حدثني جعفر بن ربيعة، عن عبد الرحمن بن هرمز،
عن رسول الله ﷺ أنه ذكر رجلا من بني إسرائيل وساق الحديث فخرج ينظر لعل مركبا قد جاء بماله، فإذا هو بالخشبة فأخذها لأهله حطبا، فلما نشرها وجد المال والصحيفة.
