The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Horses are of three kinds. For one man they are a source of reward, for another they are a covering, and for another they are a burden.As for the man who earns reward through them, he is one who tethers them for the cause of Allah and keeps them grazing on a long rope in a meadow or pasture. Whatever they consume from that meadow or pasture during the length of their rope is recorded as good deeds for him. If their rope were to break and they galloped a stretch or two, their tracks and droppings would be good deeds for him. If they passed by a river and drank from it without him intending to water them, that too would be good deeds for him. So for that man they are a reward.As for the man who tethers them seeking independence and to refrain from begging, then does not forget the right of Allah upon their necks and their backs, for him they are a covering.As for the man who tethers them out of pride, showing off, and hostility toward the people of Islam, for him they are a burden."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked about donkeys, and he replied, "Nothing has been revealed to me concerning them except this comprehensive, singular verse, 'So whoever does an atom's weight of good will see it, and whoever does an atom's weight of evil will see it'" [Zalzalah 99:7–8].
حدثنا عبد الله بن يوسف أخبرنا مالك بن أنس عن زيد بن أسلم عن أبي صالح السمان
أن رسول الله ﷺ قال الخيل لرجل أجر ولرجل ستر وعلى رجل وزر فأما الذي له أجر فرجل ربطها في سبيل الله فأطال بها في مرج أو روضة فما أصابت في طيلها ذلك من المرج أو الروضة كانت له حسنات ولو أنه انقطع طيلها فاستنت شرفا أو شرفين كانت آثارها وأرواثها حسنات له ولو أنها مرت بنهر فشربت منه ولم يرد أن يسقي كان ذلك حسنات له فهي لذلك أجر ورجل ربطها تغنيا وتعففا ثم لم ينس حق الله في رقابها ولا ظهورها فهي لذلك ستر ورجل ربطها فخرا ورياء ونواء لأهل الإسلام فهي على ذلك وزر وسئل رسول الله ﷺ عن الحمر فقال ما أنزل علي فيها شيء إلا هذه الآية الجامعة الفاذة {فمن يعمل مثقال ذرة خيرا يره ومن يعمل مثقال ذرة شرا يره}
