Abu Bakhtari reported,

I asked Ibn Umar about advance payment for dates, and he said that the sale of date-palms was forbidden until they ripen, and the sale of silver for silver was forbidden when one party defers delivery while the other pays on the spot.I also asked Ibn Abbas about advance payment for dates, and he said that the Prophet ﷺ forbade the sale of date-palms until some of them are eaten, or one can eat from them, and until they can be weighed.

سألت ابن عمر رضي الله عنهما عن السلم في النخل فقال نهي عن بيع النخل حتى يصلح وعن بيع الورق نساء بناجز وسألت ابن عباس عن السلم في النخل فقال نهى النبي ﷺ عن بيع النخل حتى يؤكل منه أو يأكل منه وحتى يوزن
