Abu Salama bin Abdul-Rahman bin Awf reported,

I asked Abu Saeed Khudri , "Did you hear the Messenger of Allah ﷺ mention Laylat al-Qadr?"He replied, "Yes. We observed itikaf with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during the middle ten days of Ramadan. On the morning of the twentieth, we came out, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ addressed us that morning and said, 'I was shown Laylat al-Qadr, but I was made to forget it. So seek it in the last ten nights, on the odd-numbered nights. I saw myself prostrating in water and mud. Whoever observed itikaf with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ should return.'So the people returned to the mosque, and we could not see a single wisp of cloud in the sky. Then a cloud came and rained, and the prayer was called. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prostrated in the mud and water, until I saw traces of mud on the tip of his nose and on his forehead."

حدثني عبد الله بن منير سمع هارون بن إسماعيل حدثنا علي بن المبارك قال حدثني يحيى بن أبي كثير قال سمعت

أبا سلمة بن عبد الرحمن قال

سألت أبا سعيد الخدري رضي الله عنه قلت هل سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يذكر ليلة القدر قال نعم اعتكفنا مع رسول الله ﷺ العشر الأوسط من رمضان قال فخرجنا صبيحة عشرين قال فخطبنا رسول الله ﷺ صبيحة عشرين فقال إني أريت ليلة القدر وإني نسيتها فالتمسوها في العشر الأواخر في وتر فإني رأيت أني أسجد في ماء وطين ومن كان اعتكف مع رسول الله ﷺ فليرجع فرجع الناس إلى المسجد وما نرى في السماء قزعة قال فجاءت سحابة فمطرت وأقيمت الصلاة فسجد رسول الله ﷺ في الطين والماء حتى رأيت أثر الطين في أرنبته وجبهته
