My father set out in the year of Hudaybiyah. His companions entered ihram, but he did not. The Prophet ﷺ had been informed that an enemy was preparing to attack him, so the Prophet ﷺ set out.While I was with his companions, some of them began smiling at one another. I looked, and there was a wild donkey. I charged at it, struck it down, and brought it to a halt. I asked the others for help, but they refused to assist me. So we ate some of its meat.We feared we would be cut off from the Prophet ﷺ, so I went searching for him, urging my horse on at times and riding at a steady pace at others. In the depth of the night I met a man from Banu Ghifar.I asked him, "Where did you leave the Prophet ﷺ?"He replied, "I left him at Taahin, and he intends to take his midday rest at Suqya."I caught up with the Prophet and said, "Messenger of Allah, your people send you greetings of peace and the mercy of Allah. They feared they would be cut off from you, so wait for them."Then I said, "Messenger of Allah, I caught a wild donkey, and I have some of it left over."The Prophet said to the people, "Eat," while they were in ihram.

انطلق أبي عام الحديبية فأحرم أصحابه ولم يحرم وحدث النبي ﷺ أن عدوا يغزوه فانطلق النبي ﷺ فبينما أنا مع أصحابه تضحك بعضهم إلى بعض فنظرت فإذا أنا بحمار وحش فحملت عليه فطعنته فأثبته واستعنت بهم فأبوا أن يعينوني فأكلنا من لحمه وخشينا أن نقتطع فطلبت النبي ﷺ أرفع فرسي شأوا وأسير شأوا فلقيت رجلا من بني غفار في جوف الليل قلت أين تركت النبي ﷺ قال تركته بتعهن وهو قائل السقيا فقلت يا رسول الله إن أهلك يقرءون عليك السلام ورحمة الله إنهم قد خشوا أن يقتطعوا دونك فانتظرهم قلت يا رسول الله أصبت حمار وحش وعندي منه فاضلة فقال للقوم كلوا وهم محرمون
