When he set out for Makkah to perform Umra during the time of civil strife, he said, "If I am prevented from reaching the House, we will do as we did with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." So he entered the state of ihram for Umra, because the Prophet ﷺ had entered ihram for Umra in the year of Hudaybiyya.Then Abdullah bin Umar reconsidered the matter and said, "The two are really one and the same." He turned to his companions and said, "The two are one and the same. I call you to witness that I have made Hajj obligatory upon myself together with the Umra."He then performed a single tawaf for both and considered that sufficient for him, and he offered a sacrificial animal.
حدثنا إسماعيل قال حدثني مالك عن نافع أن
حين خرج إلى مكة معتمرا في الفتنة إن صددت عن البيت صنعنا كما صنعنا مع رسول الله ﷺ فأهل بعمرة من أجل أن النبي ﷺ كان أهل بعمرة عام الحديبية ثم إن عبد الله بن عمر نظر في أمره فقال ما أمرهما إلا واحد فالتفت إلى أصحابه فقال ما أمرهما إلا واحد أشهدكم أني قد أوجبت الحج مع العمرة ثم طاف لهما طوافا واحدا ورأى أن ذلك مجزيا عنه وأهدى
