Abu Musa Ashari reported,

I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was at Batha.He asked, "Have you intended to perform Hajj?"I replied, "Yes."He asked, "With what intention did you enter ihram?"I said, "I declared, 'Here I am, with the same intention as the Prophet ﷺ.'"He said, "Well done. Go and perform tawaf around the House and walk between Safa and Marwa."Then I went to a woman from the tribe of Banu Qays who combed out the lice from my hair, and afterwards I entered ihram for Hajj. I used to give this ruling as a fatwa to the people until the caliphate of Umar , when I mentioned it to him.He said, "If we follow the Book of Allah, it commands us to complete the rites in full. And if we follow the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not exit ihram until the sacrificial animal reached its place of slaughter."

حدثنا عبدان قال أخبرني أبي عن شعبة عن قيس بن مسلم عن طارق بن شهاب

عن أبي موسى رضي الله عنه قال

قدمت على رسول الله ﷺ وهو بالبطحاء فقال أحججت قلت نعم قال بما أهللت قلت لبيك بإهلال كإهلال النبي ﷺ قال أحسنت انطلق فطف بالبيت وبالصفا والمروة ثم أتيت امرأة من نساء بني قيس ففلت رأسي ثم أهللت بالحج فكنت أفتي به الناس حتى خلافة عمر رضي الله عنه فذكرته له فقال إن نأخذ بكتاب الله فإنه يأمرنا بالتمام وإن نأخذ بسنة رسول الله ﷺ فإن رسول الله ﷺ لم يحل حتى بلغ الهدي محله
