The Prophet ﷺ set out from Medina at the time of Hudaybiyah with somewhat over a thousand of his companions. When they reached Dhul Hulayfah, the Prophet ﷺ garlanded the sacrificial animal, marked it, and entered the state of ihram for umrah.

خرج النبي ﷺ زمن الحديبية من المدينة في بضع عشرة مائة من أصحابه حتى إذا كانوا بذي الحليفة قلد النبي ﷺ الهدي وأشعر وأحرم بالعمرة
