Salim bin Abdullah bin Umar reported,

Abdul-Malik bin Marwan wrote to Hajjaj instructing him to follow Abdullah bin Umar in the rites of Hajj. On the day of Arafah, Ibn Umar came, and I was with him, just as the sun had passed its zenith. He called out at Hajjaj's tent, "Where is this man?"Hajjaj came out to him.Ibn Umar said, "Let us set out."Hajjaj asked, "Right now?"He replied, "Yes."Hajjaj said, "Give me a moment to pour some water over myself."Ibn Umar dismounted and waited until Hajjaj came out. Then Hajjaj rode along between me and Ubayy, and I said to him, "If you want to follow the Sunnah today, shorten the sermon and hasten to the standing."Ibn Umar said, "He has spoken the truth."

أن عبد الملك بن مروان كتب إلى الحجاج أن يأتم بعبد الله بن عمر في الحج فلما كان يوم عرفة جاء ابن عمر رضي الله عنهما وأنا معه حين زاغت الشمس أو زالت فصاح عند فسطاطه أين هذا فخرج إليه فقال ابن عمر الرواح فقال الآن قال نعم قال أنظرني أفيض علي ماء فنزل ابن عمر رضي الله عنهما حتى خرج فسار بيني وبين أبي فقلت إن كنت تريد أن تصيب السنة اليوم فاقصر الخطبة وعجل الوقوف فقال ابن عمر صدق
