Fadl was riding behind the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when a woman from Khathaam came forward. Fadl began looking at her and she at him, so the Prophet ﷺ kept turning Fadl's face to the other side.She said, "Messenger of Allah, the obligation of Allah upon His servants regarding the Hajj has caught my father as a very old man, unable to remain steady on a mount. May I perform Hajj on his behalf?"He replied, "Yes."This took place during the Farewell Pilgrimage.
حدثنا عبد الله بن يوسف أخبرنا مالك عن ابن شهاب عن سليمان بن يسار
كان الفضل رديف رسول الله ﷺ فجاءت امرأة من خشعم فجعل الفضل ينظر إليها وتنظر إليه وجعل النبي ﷺ يصرف وجه الفضل إلى الشق الآخر فقالت يا رسول الله إن فريضة الله على عباده في الحج أدركت أبي شيخا كبيرا لا يثبت على الراحلة أفأحج عنه قال نعم وذلك في حجة الوداع
