The Prophet ﷺ said, "On crops watered by the sky, by springs, or naturally by their roots, a tithe is due. On crops watered by irrigation, half a tithe is due."Abu Abdullah said, This is an explanation of the earlier report, for in the earlier report, meaning the hadith of Ibn Umar that says, "On what the sky waters, a tithe is due," no specific measure was given. In this report the matter is clarified and specified. An additional detail from a reliable narrator is accepted, and the explanatory report takes precedence over the ambiguous one when reliable narrators transmit it. Just as Fadl bin Abbas reported that the Prophet ﷺ did not pray inside the Kaabah, while Bilal said that he did pray, so Bilal's report was accepted and Fadl's was set aside.
حدثنا سعيد بن أبي مريم حدثنا عبد الله بن وهب قال أخبرني يونس بن يزيد عن الزهري
عن النبي ﷺ قال فيما سقت السماء والعيون أو كان عثريا العشر وما سقي بالنضح نصف العشر قال أبو عبد الله هذا تفسير الأول لأنه لم يوقت في الأول يعني حديث ابن عمر وفيما سقت السماء العشر وبين في هذا ووقت والزيادة مقبولة والمفسر يقضي على المبهم إذا رواه أهل الثبت كما روى الفضل بن عباس أن النبي ﷺ لم يصل في الكعبة وقال بلال قد صلى فأخذ بقول بلال وترك قول الفضل
