Hakeem said, "I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he gave to me. Then I asked him again and he gave to me. Then I asked him a third time and he gave to me."Then the Prophet ﷺ said, "Hakeem, this wealth is sweet and green. Whoever takes it with a generous heart will be blessed in it, but whoever takes it with a greedy soul will not be blessed in it, like one who eats but is never satisfied. The upper hand is better than the lower hand."Hakeem said, "I replied, 'Messenger of Allah, by the One who sent you with the truth, I will never accept anything from anyone after you until I depart this world.'"Abu Bakr used to summon Hakeem to give him his stipend, but he refused to accept it. Then Umar summoned him to give him his share, but he again refused to accept anything from him.Umar said, "Muslims, I call you to witness that I offer Hakeem his rightful share from this booty, but he refuses to take it."So Hakeem never accepted anything from anyone after the Messenger of Allah ﷺ until he died.
و حدثنا عبدان أخبرنا عبد الله أخبرنا يونس عن الزهري عن عروة بن الزبير وسعيد بن المسيب أن
سألت رسول الله ﷺ فأعطاني ثم سألته فأعطاني ثم سألته فأعطاني ثم قال يا حكيم إن هذا المال خضرة حلوة فمن أخذه بسخاوة نفس بورك له فيه ومن أخذه بإشراف نفس لم يبارك له فيه كالذي يأكل ولا يشبع اليد العليا خير من اليد السفلى قال حكيم فقلت يا رسول الله والذي بعثك بالحق لا أرزأ أحدا بعدك شيئا حتى أفارق الدنيا فكان أبو بكر رضي الله عنه يدعو حكيما إلى العطاء فيأبى أن يقبله منه ثم إن عمر رضي الله عنه دعاه ليعطيه فأبى أن يقبل منه شيئا فقال عمر إني أشهدكم يا معشر المسلمين على حكيم أني أعرض عليه حقه من هذا الفيء فيأبى أن يأخذه فلم يرزأ حكيم أحدا من الناس بعد رسول الله ﷺ حتى توفي
