Abu Lahab, may Allah's curse be upon him, said to the Prophet ﷺ, "May you perish for the rest of the day!" So the verse was revealed, "Perish the hands of Abu Lahab, and perish he!" [Masad 111:1].
حدثنا عمر بن حفص حدثنا أبي حدثنا الأعمش حدثني عمرو بن مرة عن سعيد بن جبير
قال أبو لهب عليه لعنة الله للنبي ﷺ تبا لك سائر اليوم فنزلت {تبت يدا أبي لهب وتب}
