Amr bin Maymun reported,

I saw Umar bin Khattab رضي الله عنه say, "Abdullah bin Umar, go to Umm Muiminin Ayesha رضي الله عنها and say, 'Umar bin Khattab sends his greetings of peace to you,' then ask her permission for me to be buried alongside my two companions."She said, "I had wanted that place for myself, but today I will prefer him over myself."When he returned, Umar asked him, "What news do you bring?"He replied, "She has granted you permission, Commander of the Believers."Umar said, "Nothing was more important to me than that resting place. When I have died, carry me there, then give the greeting of peace and say, 'Umar bin Khattab seeks permission.' If she grants me permission, then bury me there. If not, return me to the graveyard of the Muslims. I do not know anyone more deserving of this matter than this group of men with whom the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was pleased when he passed away. Whoever they appoint after me, he is the caliph, so listen to him and obey."He then named Uthman, Ali, Talha, Zubayr, Abdul-Rahman bin Awf, and Saad bin Abu Waqqas.A young man from the Ansar entered upon him and said, "Receive glad tidings, Commander of the Believers, of the good news from Allah. You have the precedence in Islam that you know of, then you were made caliph and you ruled justly, and now martyrdom after all of this."Umar replied, "I wish, my nephew, that all of this would leave me even, neither for nor against me. I advise the caliph who comes after me to treat the early Muhajirun well, to recognize their rights and preserve their honor. And I advise him to treat the Ansar well, those who settled in the home and embraced faith [Hashr 59:9], to accept from those among them who do good and to pardon those who do wrong. And I advise him concerning the protection granted by Allah and His Messenger ﷺ, that their covenant be fulfilled, that they be defended in battle, and that they not be burdened beyond their capacity."
