Saeed bin Jubayr reported,

I said to Ibn Abbas, "Nawf al-Bikali claims that the Musa mentioned in this story is not the Musa of the Children of Israel, but rather a different Musa."Ibn Abbas replied, "The enemy of Allah has lied. Ubayy bin Kaab narrated to us from the Prophet ﷺ the following.Musa the Prophet stood up to address the Children of Israel and was asked, 'Who is the most knowledgeable of people?'He answered, 'I am the most knowledgeable.'Allah reproached him for not attributing knowledge to Him, so Allah revealed to him that there was a servant of His at the junction of the two seas who was more knowledgeable than him.Musa asked, 'My Lord, how can I find him?'He was told, 'Carry a fish in a basket, and where you lose it, there he will be.'So Musa set out with his servant Yusha bin Nun, carrying a fish in a basket, until they reached a rock. There they laid down their heads and slept. The fish slipped out of the basket and 'took its way into the sea, slipping away' [Kahf 18:61], and this was a wonder for Musa and his servant. They continued on for the rest of that night and the next day. When morning came, Musa said to his servant, 'Bring us our morning meal, we have certainly suffered fatigue from this journey of ours' [Kahf 18:62]. Musa had not felt any fatigue until he passed the place he had been commanded to reach. His servant said to him, 'Did you see when we took refuge at the rock? Indeed, I forgot the fish, and none made me forget to mention it except Satan' [Kahf 18:63].Musa said, 'That is what we were seeking.' So they returned, retracing their steps [Kahf 18:64].When they reached the rock, there was a man covered with a garment, or who had covered himself with his garment. Musa greeted him with peace.Khidr said, 'How is there peace in your land?'Musa said, 'I am Musa.'Khidr asked, 'The Musa of the Children of Israel?'Musa answered, 'Yes.'Musa said, 'May I follow you so that you teach me from what you have been taught of right guidance?' [Kahf 18:66].Khidr replied, 'Indeed, you will never be able to have patience with me' [Kahf 18:67]. 'Musa, I have knowledge from the knowledge of Allah which He has taught me and which you do not know, and you have knowledge which He has taught you and which I do not know.'Musa said, 'You will find me, if Allah wills, patient, and I will not disobey you in any order' [Kahf 18:69].So they set out walking along the seashore, having no ship. A ship passed by them, and they spoke to its crew asking to be carried. The crew recognized Khidr and carried them without charge. A sparrow came and perched on the edge of the ship and pecked once or twice into the sea.Khidr said, 'Musa, my knowledge and your knowledge have not diminished from the knowledge of Allah except as much as this sparrow has diminished the sea with its peck.'Then Khidr went to one of the planks of the ship and pulled it out.Musa said, 'These people carried us without charge, yet you have deliberately damaged their ship to drown its passengers.'Khidr said, 'Did I not say that you would never be able to have patience with me?'Musa said, 'Do not blame me for what I forgot, and do not overburden me in my affair with difficulty' [Kahf 18:73].This first incident from Musa was due to forgetfulness. They continued on, and there was a boy playing with other boys. Khidr seized him by the top of his head and tore it off with his hand.Musa said, 'Have you killed a pure soul who had killed no one?' [Kahf 18:74].Khidr said, 'Did I not tell you that you would never be able to have patience with me?' [Kahf 18:75].Ibn Uyayna remarked, "And this was more emphatic."'So they set out, until when they came to the people of a town, they asked its people for food, but they refused to give them hospitality. They found in it a wall about to collapse, so he restored it' [Kahf 18:77].Khidr restored it with his hand.Musa said to him, 'If you had wished, you could have taken payment for that.' Khidr said, 'This is the parting between me and you' [Kahf 18:77–78].The Prophet ﷺ said, "May Allah have mercy on Musa. We would have wished that he had been patient so that more of their story could have been related to us."
