Sahl bin Saad reported,

The Prophet ﷺ went out to make peace between the tribe of Amr bin Awf bin Harith. When the time for prayer arrived, Bilal came to Abu Bakr رضي الله عنهم and said, "The Prophet ﷺ has been delayed. Will you lead the people in prayer?"Abu Bakr replied, "Yes, if you wish."So Bilal called the iqamah, and Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه stepped forward and began leading the prayer. Then the Prophet ﷺ arrived, walking through the rows, parting them until he stood in the first row. The people began to clap.Sahl said, "Do you know what tasfeeh is? It is clapping."Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه would not turn around during his prayer, but when they kept clapping, he looked back and saw the Prophet ﷺ in the row. The Prophet ﷺ gestured to him to stay in his place. Abu Bakr raised his hands and praised Allah, then stepped backward to retreat behind the row. The Prophet ﷺ then moved forward and led the prayer.
