Ayesha reported,

She informed him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed the prayer on the day the sun was eclipsed. He stood and pronounced the takbeer, then recited a long recitation. He bowed for a long time, then raised his head and said, "Allah hears whoever praises Him," and remained standing as he was. He then recited another long recitation, shorter than the first, then bowed for a long time, though shorter than the first bowing. Then he prostrated for a long time. He did the same in the second cycle. Then he gave the closing salutation, and the sun had already cleared. He then addressed the people and said concerning the eclipse of the sun and the moon, "They are two of the signs of Allah. They do not eclipse for the death of anyone or for his life. So when you see them, hasten to prayer."
