He said, I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Every nation has a trustworthy one, and the trustworthy one of this nation is Abu Ubayda bin Jarra."
قال سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول: لكل أمة أمين، وأمين هذه الأمة أبو عبيدة بن الجراح.
Tabarani reported it in Al-Kabir (3825) from Muhammad bin Abdullah Hadrami, who said, our teacher Muqaddam bin Muhammad bin Yahya told us, my uncle Qasim bin Yahya told us, from Abdullah bin Uthman bin Khuthaym, from Abu Zubayr (Muhammad bin Muslim), from Jabir, from Khalid bin Walid, and he mentioned it. Its isnad is hasan because of Muqaddam bin Muhammad bin Yahya and Abdullah bin Uthman bin Khuthaym, for the two of them make the hadith hasan. As for what Ahmad reported (16823) from Husayn bin Ali Jafi, from Zaida, from Abdul-Malik bin Umayr, who said, Umar bin Khattab appointed Abu Ubayda bin Jarra over Syria, and dismissed Khalid bin Walid. He said, Khalid bin Walid then said, "He has sent to you the trustworthy one of this nation, I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'The trustworthy one of this nation is Abu Ubayda bin Jarra.'" Abu Ubayda said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Khalid is one of the swords of Allah , and what an excellent young man of the tribe he is.'"This chain has a break, for Abdul-Malik bin Umayr, who is Lakhmi, never met Abu Ubayda, nor Umar, nor Khalid bin Walid. Haythami identified this defect in Al-Majma (9/348–349).
