I heard that whenever it was said to Ibn Umar that he had emigrated before his father, he would become angry. He said, "Umar and I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and found him taking his midday rest, so we returned to our lodging. Umar then sent me, saying, 'Go and see whether he has woken up.' I went to him, entered upon him, and gave him my pledge of allegiance. Then I went back to Umar and informed him that he had woken up, so we hurried back to him at a quick pace until Umar entered upon him and pledged allegiance to him, after which I pledged allegiance to him as well."
Bukhari narrated it in the chapter on the virtues of the Ansar (3916), from Muhammad bin Sabbah, or it reached me from him, he said, Ismail narrated to us, from Asim, from Abu Uthman who said, and then he mentioned it.
