Umar said, "I agreed with my Lord in three matters.I said, 'Messenger of Allah, what if we took the Station of Ibrahim as a place of prayer?' Then the verse was revealed, 'And take the Station of Ibrahim as a place of prayer' [Baqarah 2:125].Then there was the verse of the veil. I said, 'Messenger of Allah, what if you ordered your wives to veil themselves, for both the righteous and the wicked speak to them?' So the verse of the veil was revealed.And the wives of the Prophet ﷺ once banded together out of jealousy toward him, so I said to them, 'Perhaps his Lord, if he divorces you, will replace you with wives better than you' [Tahrim 66:5]. Then this verse was revealed."
قال عمر: وافقت ربي في ثلاث. فقلت: يا رسول الله، لو اتخذنا من مقام إبراهيم مصلى، فنزلت: {واتخذوا من مقام إبرهم مصلى} [البقرة: ١٢٥] وآية الحجاب، قلت: يا رسول الله، لو أمرت نساءك أن يحتجبن، فإنه يكلمهن البر والفاجر، فنزلت آية الحجاب، واجتمع نساء النبي ﷺ في الغيرة عليه، فقلت لهن: {عسى ربه إن طلقكن أن يبدله أزواجا خيرا منكن} [التحريم: ٥] فنزلت هذه الآية.
Bukhari narrated it in Prayer (402) from Amr bin Awn, from Hushaym, from Humayd, from Anas, who said, then he mentioned it, and this is his wording. Muslim narrated it in the Virtues of the Companions (2399) from Uqba bin Mukram Ammi, from Saeed bin Amir, who said that Juwayria bin Asma said, informed to us from Nafi, from Ibn Umar, who said that Umar said, then he mentioned something similar. In the third instance he said "the captives of Badr" in place of "jealousy."In a wording of Bukhari's, "News reached me of the Prophet's ﷺ rebuke of some of his wives, so I went in to them and said, 'If you do not stop, Allah may well replace His Messenger ﷺ with wives better than you.' When I came to one of his wives, she said, 'Umar, is there not enough in the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to admonish his wives, that you must admonish them yourself?' Then Allah revealed, "It may be that his Lord, if he divorced you, would give him in exchange wives better than you, submitting to Allah" [Tahrim 66:5]," the rest of the verse.Bukhari narrated it in Tafsir (4483) from Musaddad, from Yahya bin Saeed, from Humayd, from Anas, who said that Umar said, then he mentioned it.
