Bazzar (2213), Tabarani in Kabir (1/5), and Ibn Abu Asim in Ahad wal-Mathani (8, 17) narrated it, and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (6864), all of them through Hamid bin Yahya Balkhi, from Sufyan bin Uyayna, from Ziyad bin Saad (that is, Khurasani), from Amir bin Abdullah bin Zubayr, from his father, and he mentioned it.Haythami mentioned it in Majma al-Zawaid (9/40) and said, "Bazzar and Tabarani narrated it similarly, and its narrators are trustworthy."Bazzar said, "We do not know of anyone who narrated this hadith with this chain except Hamid, from Ibn Uyayna."I say, its chain is hasan because of Hamid bin Yahya Balkhi, for he is truthful, as Ibn Abu Hatim said. As for Abu Hatim, he said, "This is a baseless hadith," Ilal (2668). Perhaps this is because Hamid Balkhi narrated it alone from Ibn Uyayna.Similar in meaning is what was reported from Ayesha, Mother of the Believers, who said, "I was in the house of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while his companions were in the courtyard, with a curtain between me and them, when Abu Bakr came forward, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Whoever is pleased to look at one freed from the Fire, let him look at this man.'"Saeed bin Mansur narrated it, as in Istiab, he said, Salih bin Musa told us, Musa bin Ishaq told us, from Ayesha bint Talha, from Ayesha, Mother of the Believers, and he mentioned it. Salih bin Musa bin Ishaq bin Talha Taymi Kufi was declared daif by Ibn Main, Abu Hatim, Ibn Hibban, and others.Abu Yaala (4899) narrated it from Suwayd bin Saeed, from Salih bin Musa, from Muawiya bin Ishaq, from Ayesha bint Talha with his chain, and he mentioned it, and it states, "His name, which his family gave him, was Abdullah bin Uthman, but the name Atiq became more well known for him."Likewise, what was reported from her, that she said Abu Bakr entered upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who said, "You are the one Allah has freed from the Fire," and from that day he was named Atiq, is not sound. Tirmidhi (3679) and Tabarani in Kabir (6/1) both narrated it through Ishaq bin Yahya bin Talha, from his uncle Ishaq bin Talha, from Ayesha, and he mentioned it. Tirmidhi said, "This is an isolated hadith," meaning daif. And that is indeed so, for Ishaq bin Yahya bin Talha is daif by the consensus of the scholars.He was inconsistent in the chain of this hadith. Sometimes he said, from his uncle Ishaq bin Talha, as here. And sometimes he said, from his uncle Musa bin Talha, as with Hakim (2/415). And sometimes he said, from his uncle Isa bin Talha, as with Hakim also (3/276). And sometimes he said, from Muawiya bin Ishaq, from his father, from Ayesha, as in Marifat Sahaba by Abu Naeem (60).Tabarani narrated it in Kabir (5/1), and Ibn Manda, as in Isaba, with his chain, from Abdul-Rahman bin Qasim, from his father, who said, "We asked Ayesha about Abu Bakr's name, and she said, 'Abdullah.'" I said, "But they say Atiq." She said, "Abu Quhafa had three sons, and he named one Atiq, and Mutiq, and Mutiq," this is the wording of Tabarani, and the wording of Ibn Manda is, "he named one Atiq, the second Mutiq, and the third Atiq." In its chain is Ibn Lahia, known for his poor memory, and Ibn Hajar also faulted it for this reason.He also narrated with his chain from Layth bin Saad, who said, "Abu Bakr was only named Atiq because of the beauty of his face, and his name was Abdullah bin Uthman." Haythami said, "Its narrators are trustworthy," and he likewise narrated it from Abu Hafs Amr bin Ali Fallas. Haythami said in Majma (9/41), "Its chain is good and hasan."
