The Prophet of Allah ﷺ wrote letters to Khosrau, to Caesar, to the Negus, and to every tyrant, calling them to Allah the Exalted. This was not the Negus over whom the Prophet ﷺ performed the funeral prayer.Wazad added in another narration, "And to Ukaydir of Dumah."
Muslim narrated it in Jihad and Expeditions (1774:75) from Yusuf bin Hammad al-Maani, who said, Abdul-Ala narrated to us, from Saeed, from Qatada, from Anas, and he related it. Ibn Hibban narrated it (653-654) through two other routes from Qatada, from him, and he added, "Ukaydir of Dumah," and its isnad is sahih. His saying "Najashi" is a title given to whoever ruled Abyssinia. As for Ashama, the one who hosted Jafar and his companions, he embraced Islam and died, and the Prophet ﷺ prayed over him. His death occurred before the conquest, in the eighth year. The letters that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wrote to the various kings calling them to Islam were written after the death of that Muslim Najashi over whom he had prayed. The text of the Prophet's ﷺ letter to the Najashi will follow later.
