Bara reported, Abu Bakr came to my father at his home and bought a saddle from him. He said to Azib, "Send your son to carry it with me."So I carried it with him, and my father went out to receive its price. My father said to him, "Abu Bakr, tell me how you two managed when you traveled by night with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."He said, "Certainly. We traveled through the night and into the next day, until the sun stood directly overhead and the road was empty with no one passing along it. Then a tall rock came into view, with a shadow that the sun had not yet reached. We dismounted there, and I prepared a place for the Prophet ﷺ with my own hands for him to sleep on, spreading out a fur over it. I said, 'Sleep, Messenger of Allah, and I will keep watch around you.'He slept, and I went out to keep watch around him. Suddenly I saw a shepherd approaching with his flock toward the rock, seeking the same shade we had sought. I asked, 'Whose servant are you, young man?'He replied, 'I belong to a man from the people of Madinah,' or he said, 'Makkah.'I asked, 'Is there milk in your flock?'He said, 'Yes.'I asked, 'Will you milk some for us?'He said, 'Yes.' He took hold of a ewe, and I said, 'Brush the udder clean of dust, hair, and dirt.'"Bara would strike one hand against the other, demonstrating the brushing motion as he told the story."He milked a small quantity of milk into a wooden bowl. I had with me a water-skin that I carried for the Prophet ﷺ to drink from and to use for ablution. I came to the Prophet ﷺ but disliked waking him, so I waited until he stirred on his own. Then I poured water onto the milk until the bottom of it grew cool, and I said, 'Drink, Messenger of Allah.'He drank until I was satisfied. Then he asked, 'Is it not time to set out?'I replied, 'Yes.'So we set out after the sun had begun to decline. Suraqa bin Malik came after us, and I said, 'We have been overtaken, Messenger of Allah.'He said, 'Do not grieve, indeed Allah is with us.'The Prophet ﷺ supplicated against him, and his horse sank into the ground up to its belly, I think on hard ground." Zuhayr was uncertain."Suraqa said, 'I see that you both have supplicated against me. Pray for me, and by Allah, I pledge to turn back any pursuers from you.'The Prophet ﷺ supplicated for him, and he was freed. Then he began to meet no one without saying, 'I have already taken care of this area for you,' and he turned back everyone he met. And he kept his promise to us."
جاء أبو بكر إلى أبي في منزله، فاشترى منه رحلا، فقال لعازب: ابعث ابنك يحمله معي، قال: فحملته معه، وخرج أبي ينتقد ثمنه، فقال له أبي: يا أبا بكر، حدثني كيف صنعتما حين سريت مع رسول الله ﷺ، قال: نعم، أسرينا ليلتنا ومن الغد، حتى قام قائم الظهيرة وخلا الطريق لا يمر فيه أحد، فرفعت لنا صخرة طويلة لها ظل لم تأت عليه الشمس، فنزلنا عنده، وسويت للنبي ﷺ مكانا بيدي ينام عليه وبسطت عليه فروة، وقلت: نم يا رسول الله وأنا أنفض لك ما حولك، فنام وخرجت أنفض ما حوله، فإذا أنا براع مقبل بغنمه إلى الصخرة، يريد منها مثل الذي أردنا، فقلت: لمن أنت يا غلام، فقال: لرجل من أهل المدينة أو مكة، قلت: أفي غنمك لبن؟ قال: نعم، قلت: أفتحلب، قال: نعم فأخذ شاة، فقلت: انفض الضرع من التراب والشعر والقذى، قال: فرأيت البراء يضرب إحدى يديه على الأخرى ينفض، فحلب في قعب كتبة من لبن، ومعي إداوة حملتها للنبي ﷺ يرتوي منها، يشرب ويتوضأ، فأتيت النبي ﷺ فكرهت أن أوقظه فوافقته حين استيقظ، فصببت من الماء على اللبن حتى برد أسفله، فقلت: اشرب يا رسول الله، قال: فشرب حتى رضيت، ثم قال: ألم يأن الرحيل. قلت: بلى. قال: فارتحلنا بعد ما مالت الشمس، واتبعنا سراقة بن مالك، فقلت: أتينا يا رسول الله، فقال: لا تحزن إن الله معنا. فدعا عليه النبي ﷺ فارتطمت به فرسه إلى بطنها- أرى- في جلد من الأرض- شك زهير- فقال: إني أراكما قد دعوتما علي، فادعوا لي، فالله لكما أن أرد عنكما الطلب، فدعا له النبي ﷺ فنجا، فجعل لا يلقى أحدا إلا قال: كفيتكم ما هنا، فلا يلقى أحدا إلا رده، قال: ووفي لنا.
