Jabir said, "I went on a military expedition with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and the Prophet ﷺ caught up with me while I was riding our water-carrying camel, which had grown so exhausted that it could barely walk."He asked me, "What is wrong with your camel?"I replied, "It is worn out."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then moved behind it, scolded it, and prayed for it. From that point on, it kept moving at the front of the caravan, ahead of all the other camels.The full hadith continues with the story of the sale of the camel.
قال غزوت مع رسول الله ﷺ فتلاحق بي النبي ﷺ، وأنا على ناضح لنا قد أعيا، فلا يكاد يسير، فقال لي: ما لبعيرك؟ قال: قلت: عبي، قال: فتخلف رسول الله ﷺ فزجره ودعا له فما زال بين يدي الإبل قدامها… الحديث بطوله في قصة بيع الجمل.
Bukhari related it in the Book of Jihad and Expeditions (2967), and Muslim in the Book of Musaqah (15:110), both from Ishaq bin Ibrahim, who said, our informant was Jareer, from Mughira, from Shaybi, from Jabir bin Abdullah, and he mentioned it.Bukhari also related it in the Book of Conditions (2718), and Muslim in the Book of Musaqah (715:109), both through another route from Jabir, and it contains, "The Prophet ﷺ then caught up with me, prayed for me, and struck it, so it went on at a pace unlike any it had gone before."
