The companions of the Prophet ﷺ used to walk in front of him when he went out, leaving his back for the angels.
كان أصحاب النبي ﷺ يمشون أمامه إذا خرج، ويدعون ظهره للملائكة.
Ibn Majah (246) and Ahmad (14236) narrated it, and this is his wording, as did Harith in his Musnad as found in Bughyat Bahith (946), and Ibn Hibban (6312), all of them through Sufyan Thawri, from Aswad bin Qays, from Nabeeh Anazi, from Jabir bin Abdullah, who said, and then he related it.Harith's wording is, "Walk in front of me, and leave what is behind me for the angels."Its chain of transmission is sahih, and Busiri graded it sahih, saying, "This chain of transmission is sahih, its narrators are trustworthy."Nabeeh Anazi is Ibn Abdullah Kufi, whom Abu Zura, Tirmidhi, Ajli, and others deemed trustworthy.
