Ayesha said to Abdullah bin Zubayr, "Bury me with my fellow wives, and do not bury me with the Prophet ﷺ in the house, for I dislike to be praised."Urwa reported that Umar sent word to Ayesha, "Permit me to be buried with my two companions."She replied, "Yes, by Allah."He said, Whenever any of the Companions would send word to her with a similar request, she would say, "No, by Allah, I will never prefer anyone over them."
عن عائشة قالت لعبد الله بن الزبير: ادفني مع صواحبي، ولا تدفني مع النبي ﷺ في البيت فإني أكره أن أزكى. وقال عروة: إن عمر أرسل إلى عائشة: ائذني لي أن أدفن مع صاحبي. فقالت: إي والله. قال: وكان الرجل إذا أرسل إليها من الصحابة قالت: لا والله لا أوثرهم بأحد أبدا.
Bukhari narrated it in Itisam (7327) from Ubayd bin Ismail, "Abu Usama told us, from Hisham bin Urwa, from his father," and he mentioned Ayesha's testament only. Then Bukhari said right after it (7328), "And from Hisham, from his father, that Umar sent," and he mentioned it.This is among the distinctive features of the Prophet ﷺ, for it has not been transmitted of anyone among the earlier generations that he was buried anywhere other than the burial ground of the Muslims. The scholars have deduced from the hadith of Abu Hurairah in Muslim (780), "Do not turn your houses into graves," that its apparent meaning entails a prohibition against burial in houses altogether. From this, the distinctiveness of the Prophet's ﷺ burial in his own house becomes clear, for a wisdom that Allah willed.Malik, may Allah have mercy on him, said that it reached him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ died on a Monday and was buried on a Tuesday, and the people prayed over him individually, no one leading them. Some people said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'No prophet has ever been buried except in the very place where he died,'" so a grave was dug for him there. Then, when they were washing him, they wanted to remove his shirt, but they heard a voice saying, "Do not remove the shirt," so the shirt was not removed, and he was washed while it was still on him ﷺ. End of quote.This is the narration of Yahya from Malik. In the narration of Abu Musab Zuhri (Janaiz 971) from Malik, he said that it reached him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ died on a Monday and was buried on a Tuesday, and the people prayed over him individually, no one leading them. Some people said, "He should be buried by the pulpit," while others said, "He should be buried in Baqi." Then Abu Bakr Siddiq came and said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'No prophet has ever been buried except in the very place where he died,'" so a grave was dug for him there.
