When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived, he refused to enter the House while the idols were still inside, so he ordered them to be removed. They brought out an image of Ibrahim and Ismail with divining arrows in their hands. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "May Allah destroy them. By Allah, they knew very well that these two never cast lots with these arrows."Then he entered the House and pronounced the takbir in its corners, but did not pray inside it.
Bukhari reported it in the Book of Hajj (1601) from Abu Muamar, who said, Abdul-Warith narrated to us, Ayub narrated to us, Ikrima narrated to us, from Ibn Abbas, and he mentioned it.The statement of Abdullah bin Umar takes precedence over the statement of Ibn Abbas, because he affirms while Ibn Abbas denies, and reconciliation between the two is possible. Ibn Hajar said, Ibn Abbas was not with the Prophet ﷺ, and he attributed his denial at times to Usama and at other times to his brother Fadl, even though it is not established that Fadl was with them except in an anomalous narration. Then he transmitted the reconciliation between the hadith of Usama and Bilal from Nawawi and others, who said, the reconciliation between Bilal's affirmation and Usama's denial is that when they entered the Kaaba, they became occupied with supplication. Usama saw the Prophet ﷺ supplicating, so Usama occupied himself with supplication in one corner while the Prophet was in another corner. Then the Prophet prayed, and Bilal saw him because of his closeness to him, but Usama did not see him because of his distance and his own preoccupation. Also, with the door closed there would have been darkness, along with the possibility that some pillars blocked his view of him, so he denied it based on what he assumed.Muhibb Tabari said, it is possible that Usama stepped away from him after entering, for some need, and so did not witness his prayer. End of quote. This is supported by what Abu Dawud Tayalisi reported in his Musnad, from Ibn Abu Dhib, from Abdul-Rahman bin Mihran, from Umayr, the freed slave of Ibn Abbas, from Usama, who said, "I entered upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the Kaaba, and he saw some images, so he called for a bucket of water, and I brought it to him, and he struck the images with it."This chain of transmission is good (jayyid).
