The Messenger of Allah ﷺ granted the people of Khaybar the right to work the land in exchange for half of its yield of fruit or crops. He used to give each of his wives one hundred wasqs every year, eighty wasqs of dates and twenty wasqs of barley. When Umar took charge and divided Khaybar, he gave the wives of the Prophet ﷺ the choice between having a portion of land and water allotted to them outright, or having the yearly wasqs guaranteed to them. They differed in their choices. Some of them chose the land and water, while others chose the yearly wasqs. Ayesha and Hafsa were among those who chose the land and water.
Bukhari narrated it in "Cultivation and Sharecropping" (2328), and Muslim in "Sharecropping and Irrigation" (2:1551), both through Ubaydullah, from Nafi, from Ibn Umar, and he mentioned it.Likewise, in Sahih Muslim, from Ali bin Mushir, from Ubaydullah, that the Prophet ﷺ used to give each of his wives one hundred wasqs every year, eighty wasqs of dates and twenty wasqs of barley. He said, and it was also narrated by Abdullah bin Numayr, from Ubaydullah, and Abdullah bin Wahb, from Usama bin Zayd Laythi, from Nafi, from Abdullah bin Ibn Umar, similar to the hadith of Ibn Numayr and Ibn Mushir, though he did not give their exact wording. However, Abu Dawud narrated it (3008) from the hadith of Abdullah bin Wahb, from Usama bin Zayd Laythi, and in it it states, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to feed each of his wives, from the fifth, one hundred wasqs of dates and twenty wasqs of barley, making the total one hundred and twenty wasqs.Perhaps the error here comes from Usama bin Zayd, since he was described as being prone to mistakes.
