A group of slaves came out to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day of Hudaybiyyah, before the treaty was concluded. Their masters wrote to him, saying, "Muhammad, by Allah, they did not come out to you out of desire for your religion. They only came out fleeing from slavery."Some people said, "They speak the truth, Messenger of Allah. Return them to their masters."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ became angry and said, "I do not see you stopping, people of Quraysh, until Allah sends against you someone who will strike your necks over this matter."He refused to return them and said, "They are the freedmen of Allah ."
Reported by Abu Dawud (2700), Ibn Jarud (1093), and Hakim (2/125), and from him Bayhaqi (9/229), via the route of Muhammad bin Salama, from Muhammad bin Ishaq, from Abu Aban bin Salih, from Mansur bin Mutamir, from Rabi bin Harash, from Ali bin Abu Talib, and he mentioned it. Hakim said, this is a sahih hadith according to the criterion of Muslim.I say, in its chain is Muhammad bin Ishaq, who is a mudallis, and he narrated using an "an" formula, but he was corroborated on the basic story. It was reported by Ahmad (1336) via the route of Sharik, from Mansur, from Rubai, from Ali, who said, some people from Quraysh came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Muhammad, we are your neighbors and allies, and some people from among our slaves have come to you, not out of any desire for the religion or any desire for understanding it, but simply having fled from our estates and our wealth, so return them to us."He said to Abu Bakr, "What do you say?"He said, "They have spoken truly, they are indeed your neighbors."The face of the Prophet ﷺ changed. Then he said to Umar, "What do you say?"He said, "They have spoken truly, they are indeed your neighbors and your allies."The face of the Prophet ﷺ changed. In its chain is Sharik bin Abdullah Nakhai, who has poor memory, but he is acceptable in corroborating narrations.
