Zubayr reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered Ali bin Abu Talib to go to al-Mihras and fetch water. He brought back water in his shield and presented it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who wanted to drink from it but found it had an unpleasant smell, so he refused it. Instead, he used it to wash the blood from his face ﷺ, saying, "The wrath of Allah has intensified against the one who has bloodied the face of the Messenger of Allah."The one who had bloodied his face that day was Utbah bin Abu Waqqas.
